Following on from the "New Design Cities" conference held in Montréal in October 2004, the Cité du Design in Saint-Étienne, France, is organizing a conference titled “Les villes laboratoires du design” (“Cities as design laboratories”). The conference, part of the XXII Entretiens Jacques Cartier, is presented in partnership with the Design Montréal office of the Ville de Montréal and the UNESCO Chair in Landscape and Environmental Design at Université de Montréal. It takes place November 30 and December 1, 2009, in the auditorium of the Cité du design in Saint-Étienne.
Experts including designers, architects, urban planners and university researchers from Copenhagen, Dortmund, Eindhoven, Montréal, Palma de Majorque, Paris (Docks en Seine), Portland, the Pays de la Loire region, the Rhône-Alpes regions, Saint-Étienne, Seoul and Toronto, along with architects Alexandre Chemetoff (Bureau des Paysages, France) and Denis Lemieux (Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec) will exchange points of view and experiences on the following issues:
- How does design fit into territories’ strategic development?
- What measures, actions and projects are being implemented to respond to challenges today, and what are their leveraging effects on development of cities and, more broadly, regions?
- How should the central role of design be seen in relation to the future of cities?
Register by November 6, 2009!
